What: Mr. Jean Stern, Executive Director of the Irvine Musuem, will be giving an art lecture titled "AN INTRODUCTION TO CALIFORNIA IMPRESSIONISM".

jean-stern-executive-director-irvine-museum1 AN INTRODUCTION TO CALIFORNIA IMPRESSIONISM is an hour long slide illustrated lecture that examines the principal painters of the California Impressionist Style (1890-1925). The lecture is presented on two, side-by-side projectors and comprises approximately 160 color slides.

Mr. Stern presents an enjoyable narrative of this period of American Impressionism and discusses about 25 of the leading painters of the period. These artists include Franz A. Bischoff (1864-1929), Jessie Arms Botke (1883-1971), George K. Brandriff (1890-1936), Maurice Braun (1877-1941), Benjamin C. Brown (1865-1942), Alson S. Clark (1876-1949), Colin Campbell Cooper (1856-1937), Armin C. Hansen (1886-1957), Sam Hyde Harris (1889-1977), Anna Hills (1882-1930), William Lees Judson (1842-1928), Joseph Kleitsch (1882-1931), Alfred R. Mitchell (1888-1972), Edgar Payne (1883-1947), Elsie Palmer Payne (1884-1971), Hanson D. Puthuff (1875-1972), Granville Redmond (1871-1935), Guy Rose (1867-1926), Donna Schuster (1883-1953), Jack Wilkinson Smith (1873-1949), Elmer Wachtel (1864-1929), Marion Kavanagh Wachtel (1876-1954), and William Wendt (1865-1946) as well as several others.

The lecture features archival photographs of each artist and shows between three and five examples of each of their works. At the end, the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions relating to the lecture.
